As an artist, I seek exhibitions that support all communities. Equality in the art world continues to take time. As a result, opportunities with narratives that are inclusive and truthful must be celebrated. The upcoming enGENDERing Change exhibit at the Cloyde Snook Gallery located at Adams State University highlights all artists!

From the gallery’s call: “This exhibition seeks submissions that conceptually or literally explore topics related to the scope of our project such as gender equity, gender identity and expression, sexism and stereotypes, feminism, choice, and other issues related to empowering each person to live fully as an autonomous and authentic individual.”

Dr. Ann Woods and Dr. Alan Woods juried the exhibit selecting my two artworks ME TOO and DANGER OWNER-OPERATOR CONTROLLED VAGINAS. Dr. Ann Woods is an educator and graphic book artist from AIMIA ART WORKS. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of the Wexner Center for the Arts, MOMA, and other prestigious venues. Dr. Alan Woods is an Ohio State University theatre professor, playwright, and International Center for Women Playwrights workshop host.

ME TOO description: The “Me Too” movement empowers survivors to end the culture of sexual violence. A star has been officially renamed METOO located in the Vela constellation. In Latin, the sails of a ship are called Vela. The commemorative star date is 1/1/2006, acknowledging the year Tarana Burke founded the ‘Me Too’ movement. “Silence Breakers” must be propelled and supported free of guilt, shame, or fear.

DANGER OWNER-OPERATOR CONTROLLED VAGINAS description: A standard projecting sign is repurposed by altering its function. Since taking office, President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have systemically hindered women’s rights and choice. The Handmaid’s Tale is a real possibility if religious doctrine becomes law-limiting options. Women, not politicians, should control their bodies.
