Age and Grace

Growing older doesn’t have to be so horrible.  Yet, a commercial industry and society boosts anything youthful and discards the elderly.  However, there is an amazing exception and that is the rise and popularity of Betty White’s career.  She has been “discovered” by a new generation and loving every minute.

Frank Bruni of The New York Times recently wrote an article titled: Facing Age With a Saucy Wink.  Bruni: “THE problem with sticking around for as long as Betty White has is that you outlive so many of the relationships that made you happiest…”  Ms. White’s tenacity and sense of humor has kept her perspective about aging in a positive light.  Her independence keeps her active, both physically and mentally.

White represents a generation of thoughtfulness and taking the time to communicate face to face with other humans not through a digital device.  Bruni: “She comes across as an effervescent throwback to some gilded and quite possibly imagined time when manners really mattered; when you said yes to just about any good opportunity because you felt privileged to have it; and when being labeled sweet didn’t mean being considered a sap.”

Wrinkles on a face represent history and wisdom.   Be proud of your lines, you’ve been given the gift of time to share and explore life’s experiences.  That indeed is the best gift ever and Ms. White reminds us of that everyday.

“I think we’re losing our sense of humor instead of being able to relax and laugh at ourselves. I don’t care whether it’s ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, or whose ox is being gored.”  Betty White
